HISTORY
The history of Collina d'Oro Resort & Spa is a journey that from its origins as Sanatorium Deutsches Haus spans a century of transformations to become today an exclusive wellness destination immersed in nature.
1913
The Sanatorium was established, known as "Deutsches Haus", designed by Swiss architect Edwin Wipf, the same architect who would later design the Centovalli railway station in Ticino.
1922
The clinic's management was entrusted to Dr. Hanns Alexander, an illustrious pulmonologist from Dresden.
1920S - 1930S
In the twenties and thirties, Dr. Alexander's wife transformed the park into a refined botanical garden, while inside the Sanatorium concerts, film screenings, a radio station managed by guests and the magazine Die Terrasse were organized.
1969
The building remained abandoned for over three decades, becoming over time a refuge for young people and artists from the area. The traces of that period — graffiti, signs and creative testimonies — have been collected and documented in the illustrated volume Agraffiti by Gaia Regazzoni. Some of those artists would later find success in the Ticino cultural scene.
1969 - 2004
The building remained abandoned for over three decades.
2004
Entrepreneur Silvio Tarchini purchased the property and began reconstruction work.
2013
Collina d'Oro Resort & Spa was officially inaugurated in March.
